Gwinnett County, Georgia Inmate Search

A Gwinnett County inmate search is the process of looking up public resources for information about individuals in detention at the county jail. The sheriff’s office manages the county jail and is legally obligated to provide public-facing resources for this purpose. Inmate searches are available through the Jail View website provided by the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office. For inmates held at the Phillips State Prison, located in Buford, Gwinnett, the Georgia Department of Corrections is in charge of inmate searches and related inquiries.

Also, note that local police departments, such as the Norcross Police Department and the Duluth Police Department, may maintain localized jail rosters for arrests made by their officers. City residents may check with their local city police before visiting the sheriff’s office. During an inmate search, a person should expect to find the full name of an inmate, booking number, arrestee age, booking date and time, bond amount, and incarceration status.

How to Use the Gwinnett County Jail Roster

To access the online jail roster, visit the jail view website. On the home page, the names and basic incarceration details of inmates are visible, from the most recent booking. Users also have the option of searching inmates through the following steps:

  • Provide the inmate’s last name, first name, middle name, and booking date range (begin booking date and end booking date) in the appropriate fields.
  • Inmates can further filter search results by current inmates, past inmates, or both. In addition, results can be sorted in ascending or descending order.

What Information is Included in the Gwinnett County Inmate Roster

One should expect to find the following information while inspecting a Gwinnett County Jail roster:

  • Inmate’s name-the inmate’s first, middle, and last name.
  • Descriptive information-typically the inmate’s sex, race, age, height, etc.
  • Incarceration status-this covers whether or not the inmate is still in custody.
  • Booking details-the booking number (unique identifier assigned to an inmate at the time of intake at the jail facility) and booking date/time (when they were admitted into jail).
  • Bond amount and type-bond is the amount of money paid to secure the release of an inmate from custody and is often a cash bond. Other bond types are self-recognizance and surety bonds.
  • Court case number and dates-this is the case number for the associated criminal/civil court case that resulted in the arrest. Official records usually contain court dates.
  • Charges and offense classification-the description of the offense and the offense classification (felony or misdemeanor).
  • Warrant/citation number-a warrant number is the unique identifying number of the arrest warrant that authorized the inmate’s arrest. Citation numbers reference the court date, case, or offense and originate if the arrestee was issued a citation (usually for less serious offenses like traffic violations and misdemeanors).

Sometimes, an arrest record may contain sensitive information, such as social security numbers, victim/witness identifying information, juvenile information, and sealed records. These records are exempt from public access under GA Code § 50-18-72. Only the inmate, select law enforcement officers, and certain authorized individuals are privy to exempt information.
